Update On Last Week

Last week we advised that Fairway Phil had received an air fryer for his recent birthday but had yet to christen it.  Well we are pleased to advise that despite being urged on to cook sausages, Phil took the brave step and moved straight on to savoury scones.  Here we see the fruits of Phil's labour below.  Apparently he has the recipe available for those interested.  Next thing we know Phil will be publishing a recipe book !!

The South Canterbury Stampede

We've had the Southern Swing and the North Otago Swing.  This year in 2026 get ready for the South Canterbury Stampede.  Now details might change as we get to grips with transport arrangements, accommodation arrangements and importantly golf courses to be played.

The weekend will be FRIDAY 4th DECEMBER through to SUNDAY 6th DECEMBER.  Lock those dates in to your diary.

We'll be heading to somewhere like Timaru, Geraldine or Methven for our accommodation.

Courses could include Terrace Downs, Methven, Pleasant Point, Gleniti, Hororata,  Maungati.

Watch this space but it's an early heads up for the dates.

He May Not Be The Best Waggler But I'd Say He's In the Top One

Waggler golf went up a notch this week with the return of Browny and Duncan making an appearance.  With those two in the field we knew realistically that the race to Balclutha was only ever going to be a 2 horse race.  But what of the Blue Jacket ?

Now Duncan has his picture on the wall in the clubhouse more than once and has many honours gained in his golfing career.  But the Blue Jacket is up there with the best.  This is Duncan's first.  Playing off a plus 1 handicap it can't be easy not only giving shots to everyone else in the field but also to the golf course.  With no less than 5 birdies in the bank Duncan shot 67 off the stick.  I asked " so with 5 birdies where did you drop a shot ?"  " I 3 putted hole 3 ...." lamented Dunc.

Amazingly in the 6s Duncan's team collected absolutely nothing which proves that for Duncan, you can actually soar like an eagle even if you are surrounded by turkeys.

Show Me The Money

Nugget cashing in.jpg

Here we have a very much at home Nugget surrounded by cash and seeing his weekly investment making some good returns.  With Tony Attenborough, Richard and John Marsh in the ranks they cleaned up the second set with 40 points and claimed half of the first set with only 30 points.  They shared the first set with team PoD.  Why PoD you ask, well watch this space.  But Team PoD were Vaughn, Nick, Murray Edgar and Eddie.  Finally our group of myself, Scottish Duncan, Antarctic explorer Warren and Geoff cleaned up the last lot with 45 points much to our surprise.

No whisky for misdemeanours was evident but there was one curious story going round involving the club president.  Playing Tipperary they made their way to the green and all marked the ball as would be expected.  But when it came to Lloyd's turn to putt, he made all the right moves.  He did the practice putt thing where you line up with the hole, moved a little closer to execute the shot, but then realised one thing was missing.  The ball was still in his pocket !

At that moment Lloyd did that thing where it's a dead set give away.  He turned round and looked at his 3 playing partners to see if they had seen what had just happened.  Yes Lloyd, at least one of them did.  You know with an air shot out on the course it's whisky time when the perpetrator turns round and looks to see if anyone saw what just happened.  The answer is no we didn't but you just gave yourself away so we'll all have a whisky thank you very much.  " I think the ball might have moved "  some might plead.  " Oh yeah, well why did you turn round straight away with that guilty look on your face  "  You can't help it, it's built into our DNA.

Whisky was generously bought for someone who equalled par for the day.  No he didn't shoot 71, but he is 71 years old.  Happy birthday Warren and thanks from us all.  With Nick leading the charge we all sang a song.

Browny won the raffle and we were all left wondering why when the scoring conditions were pretty good, that only one person scored higher than 36 stableford points.  Maybe it's because we're all getting old.

And that was another Wednesday done and dusted.  Course open on Friday so Skins at the usual time.
