Tales From Afar

No golfing stories this week and many miles on the road.  Went to the opera of all things this week, first time for everything.  Anyway, here's a picture of a dessert I stumbled across this week which was rather nice and I thought worthy of a picture.  A choux bun filled with cream and nutella and chocolate sauce on the side, I thought I'd go for the healthy option for once.

Meanwhile Back In Dunedin

We are getting some nice sunny Autumn days here in Dunedin and that was no exception today, except for the last 2 holes of golf for most of us. The weather forecast was spot on, where the south-west change and rain that was predicted to occur actually happened at 4.30pm.  We were playing down the 17th hole when the rain started falling and the strong winds hit the course. Future LIV golfer Henderson ( although I see today LIV is soon to be no more ) and Eddie had already lost the haggle to Warren Alcock and Murray Cooper. This despite Legs Cooper having already made a couple of tyre changes to keep his golf in order. We were also getting a bit of hastle from the group behind us about our slow play, who blamed us for all of their problems.

Well done to Warren Alcock  who played very well and scored 41 points, only to be pipped at the post by a better golfer on the day Richard Freeman.

Fairway Phil was in charge today and after appointing Deano to collect the money, we got on with the job of sorting out the winners for the day. The first six holes saw team Ellis, Attenborough, Freeman and Broughton take the honours with a commendable 32 points.  Both Tony of the Cayman Islands and Bob the Builder were in the leading group for the Blue Jacket today.

The second 6 holes was also closely contested and group MacKay, Grant, Wickramagedara and Alexander prevailed with 44 points. It seemed like it was the Nugget and the Stepper who carried the team through this period, despite having a SLOW group in front of them.

The third six holes was a run-away win for the first 6 winners team Ellis, Attenborough, Freeman and Fairway Phil who amassed 51 points, even when the weather was causing problems at the end.

The Blue Jacket was a close contest between Richard Freeman and Warren Alcock who both scored 41 points. However on a countback it was Richard who won the jacket with 4 for 3 points on the 17th hole. Well done Richard second time in recent weeks.

The Swingers trophy saw a close contest between Tony Brown and Richard Freeman each with 3 birdies. How ever it was Richard who claimed the prestigious trophy with a higher stableford score of 41 points.

And finally to the raffle, which was won by the ATM Senaka with number 44 and plenty of funds to feed the family this week.

Something to mention this week is the dedication by one of our Waggler members.  Retired anaesthetist Geoff Laney, despite flying out on a cycle trip to France at 7pm, still wanted to play golf with the Wagglers' group. He organized an early tee time, arranged for his wife to pack his socks and undies, skipped the 19th celebrations and took a cab to the airport to make his flight.  Have a great trip Geoff and Shirley.

We will be looking to start our winter tee time this coming week, around 20 minutes earlier.  I will confirm the tee times after discussion with the Pro-shop.
